Rock’n Runner “The Deadliest Road Runner in 50 years! Tie-on at snap, Cast near structure, Retrieve, HANG ON! Because it’s a Road Runner® at heart, it out-fishes ordinary baits.

I took the Rock’n Runner out of the package and gave it a a good look over and it was well built, more well built then some other “chatter style” baits out there.

The Rock’n Runner also had a better hook and that nice road runner blade underneath to add more flash and appeal to the fish.

On the water I was tossing the Rock’n Runner™ into places I would normally Throw a spinnerbait, which is almost everywhere. The hard thump on the retrieve and that wiggle and extra flash due to the Road Runner blade underneath made the Rock’n Runner™ look and feel deadly on the way back to the boat.

My first BASS came slow rolling a shallow creek channel in about 8 feet of water on the Rock’n Runner™ the BASS  hammered it, stopped the Rock’n Runner™ dead in its tracks. 

The second fish I landed was a rainbow trout in the same channel.

I moved out of the channel to a windy shallow shoreline and started waking the Rock’n Runner™ like you do a spinnerbait, just under the surface and I picked up 3 bass in about a 400 feet stretch down the windy bank.

I then moved over to a few lay down logs and worked the Rock’n Runner™ like a jig and landed 1 BASS, it hit the bait as i lifted  it and then let it flutter back down.

I was impressed with the Rock’n Runner™  and its ability to land fish, and it also held up very well

Swim-baits present the same challenges that jerk-bait anglers battled for years;
1. The bait slides down the hook and 2. The front of the lure prevents solid hook-ups.

The perfect hooks are the CopperHead™ and its weighted cousin, the ButtDragger™.
It’s the same hook that better anglers have been using for Toads and Jerk-baits for some time now.

Why do CopperHeads and ButtDraggers, hook more fish than “X-Wide-Gap” hooks?

To really understand this, we must first learn what fish do when they eat; first, the fish turns (competition) and the second thing they do is crush the bait as they dart away. (BIG fish don’t turn, since they needn’t worry about the smaller fish taking a meal away.)

Four things will determine the angle that the hook will travel; the crushing action by the fish, (Compression) the hook shape, the shape of the lure and the direction of the hook-set.

In the first photo; the top lure is rigged with the hook-point, “Tex-posed” and the other lure is rigged with the CopperHead.

The second photo illustrates the lures after compression by the fish. Note how the X-Wide-Gap style hook points back towards the plastic while the CopperHead hook point is clearly exposed to hook flesh.

It’s easy to see the advantage of the bend in the front of the hook instead of the back. The HitchHiker® coil firmly holds the plastic while it increases lure life. Both the CopperHead and ButtDragger hooks allow the angler to pre-rig Swimbaits, before the fishing trip begins.
